Big Sister
Today, I decided to take a leap! I applied to the Big Brothers & Sisters of Phoenix. I have been wanting to get involved with a charity, and I decided that this was the one. My mom and I use to visit hospitals weekly and make jewelry with the kiddos and I have missed it so much! "Bead Side Manner". Cheering up little kids is such an amazing feeling. When I was in High School, I mentored a group of girls and felt like it was something I was called to do. I get caught up in myself VERY easily, and my life lately has been all about Misty. Subsequently, I have felt like something was missing and my legacy was going to be a closet full of cute clothes and 5 bazillion hours logged to social networking sites...not so impressive! Today I have been thinking about when I was a teenager... Eh..Can we say brat and a half?! Ever since I was a toddler my Mom would make me promise that when I was a teenager, I would still think she was cool and still be nice to her. I remember thinking it was so crazy that I could think my mom was anything less than the coolest person EVER. well.. then Jr. High happened.. and High School.. I remember fighting with my Mom and she would say.. "BUT YOU PROMISED TO BE NICE TO ME!" and I would do the infamous "Misty Eye Roll" and stomp off. Yes, my mom was back to being the coolest person on the earth after HS graduation. But, being a teenager is rough business. I know that the problems I have now are more "serious" but I would argue that all my problems in Jr. high meant SO much more to me. I think that having a "Big Sister" would have made such a difference for me. Someone that I still thought was "Cool" that just built my confidence and loved on me. I can't wait to hear back!
